RULA International Award to JMI professor and his research team for outstanding work in Molecular Oncology
Research Under Literal Access (RULA) Award has been conferred upon Prof. M. Moshahid A. Rizvi, Head, Department of Biosciences and his research team for outstanding research work in the area of ‘Molecular Oncology’. RULA is an International Award given for scientific innovation and betterment excellence.
This award has been conferred upon Prof. Rizvi and his team, mainly for the discovery of two novel Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in the prompter region of PARK2 gene and its implication in the genesis and progression of colorectal cancer. It is likely to resolve the novel pattern of involvement of many other tumor suppressor genes in cancer generation as well as its progression. Malaysia based RULA international award extends this honour in multiple disciplines including Molecular Oncology in association with the Canada Based United Medical Council (UMC) and US based World Research Council comprising international jury.
This Excellent Research award in Molecular Oncology bagged by the team of 8 young Researchers of Prof. M. Moshahid Alam Rizvi is yet another feather added to the JMI cap. It is pertinent to mention that Prof. Moshahid A Rizvi has been working in the field of Molecular Oncology and Therapeutics for more than 15 years and has guided so for 25 PhD Students with more than 120 international publications in his area of research. Currently he is leading a team of 12 young scientists/researchers who are involved in two basic groups, The Molecular Oncology Group and Cancer Therapeutics Group. They are working on multiple cancer types like cancer of Uterine, Cervix, Breast, Oral and Colorectal. His lab is maintaining more than 20 different cancer cell lines routinely. Speaking on this accolade Prof. M. Moshahid A Rizvi said; “The best is yet to come but certainly this is an auspicious moment for my research group to celebrate the achievement. I consider it as a mark of international recognition for my lab and research work and feel obliged to the board of management of RULA.”
